Recently managed to find some chunky black widow tetra, the largest of them are about the size of the palm of my hand, I never really appreciated they could get to this size, they are far more impressive when you see a group like that than the normal tiny ones,
Still have the lovely northern longnose cory, the orange cory are also, I did consider taking them out as they are so small but they are so active racing up and down that I recently got a couple more to make a larger group instead.

Having a lot of difficulty getting plants to grow in the Pantanal tank, it must be the depth, however the BB and string algae has vastly reduced recently it did get to be large amounts and that went on for several months, I only kept going as I knew the last tank that was here went through the same thing, now it seems to be settling down so that it a great relief,
The sand bed at the back is not deep enough so the soil is getting in the water column, reluctant to make the sand too deep so have stuck a sponge over the filter inlet, it may not look pretty but it works it makes my life a lot easier, would be better if I could find a black one,
Was stoked to finally find some more nice flag cichlids of the same type as my current beast Mesonauta Mirificus, bit pricey though The Black Widows continue to get bigger surely they are fully grown now, I wouldn't argue with this one! The phantoms are starting to look undersized but they compete well for food so hopefully it will be ok
new and original flag cichlids

how bigs the sponge? does it need to be sealed at one end or is open both ends ok? I've got a few new ones floating around that might need a trim but could work. Whats the internal diameter that you need?

It's one of the Juwel large size filter sponges, I cut the middle out so it is open on one end only, it's quite a coarse sponge as I was worried about slowing the flow I run an FX2 which is quite powerful, if I have chance I will give it a measure tomorrow, thanks for the offer.

@fr499y Thanks very much for the sponge, it came a few days ago but I only got it onto the tank yesterday, it seems to be doing a good job
