(Not sure if this is in the correct section)
One of my Synodontis catfish I suspect the bigger one which is about 4/6inches is constantly churning up my substrate which is fine unipac sand. Underneath is Tropica soil for the plants. The layer of soil then causes clouding which takes ages to clear looks ugly and leaves the soil on top of the sand :@
The sand is around 1.5/2cm deep which doesn't seem to make a difference when it comes to the Syno doing its thing. The water parameters don't change during this.
Should I put more unipac on or is there something heaver I can use maybe a less fine sand? Any other ideas?
Thanks in advance.

The syno will dig no matter what you put on top, so I don't know what to suggest that would be helpful.

I’ve only use ‘soil’ once and it was probs the worse performing tank I had with plants. I personally don’t see the benefits for getting soil ( especially for the cost ) over normal sand.

I would be inclined to make the sand a little deeper, maybe an extra 1cm deeper. Hopefully this will protect the plant substrate and the plants.

All the best
