Honey barb gravid.

I have 4 Honey Barbs and one appears to be gravid, in that she has a swollen belly which seems to be increasing in size. She has been like this for 2 weeks or so. I don't think this is bloat as she poos OK and like her grub. I gather these fish are "egg spreaders". How long do they remain gravid? (And don't say.."Until they lay!!!!") as I may take place her into another tank with a male.

I've had egg-scatterers stay gravid for what seems like months......
A cooler water change will normally start the spawning (but not always).

Very sorry Stephen.... my lapse. I meant Cherry barb. The reason I messed it up is that I bought some local honey for a grandson and had just emailed him.... (age related)
I hope I haven't emailed him informing that I have bought a jar of "Cherry" for him.

Worms! ...give them live daphnia, bloodworms or tubifex, a spawning mop if you have no dense plants and no temperature adjustment needed.

I've found these little chaps will spawn at around 24°c quite happily, spawning takes place first light and the tiny fry hatch 24-48 hours later. Parents will eat the eggs and fry, so must removed, feeding the fry I found best to use infusoria and later on Walter worms.

I was reading up on some barb breeding yesterday after i seen the post. Some species do prefer shallower water to breed in, I’m guessing the lower water would indicate spring/summer seasons which would normally tie in with breeding.
Not saying it will help in this case, but just thought I would put it out there incase it does help

It looks like a Titteia barbel to me.
The picture shows a female. The males look more red.
The Name sherry barbel is used here for the island barbel. Barbus oligolepis. (The other picture)
