Hi All,

Living in a hard water area sucks, until you realise how much choice you actually have. It really isn't just Guppies, Mollys, Platys and Swordtails you can keep.

I've been doing some research on some of the rarer livebearers. I've fallen in love with them all, but two species have particularly caught my eye.

The first is Tiger Teddy - Neoheterandria elegans and the other is Tiburon Limia - Limia tridens.

Unfortunately both species do seem to be super rare and I can't find any that are available to buy in the UK.

What other uncommon livebearers have people kept?

Limias are pretty rare. The goodeidae/splitfins are also uncommon although there was someone on another place who kept and bred redtail splitfins (xenotoca eiseni) :)
To the tune of “the saints go marching in”:
Oh fluffy sheep! Oh fluffy sheep! Oh fluffy sheep are wonderful, they’re white Welsh and fluffy! Oh fluffy sheep are wonderful!

You should also be able to get most livebearers from the various livebearer societies on Facebook.
