I'm fairly sure I'm seeing eggs from spawning activity with my cherry barbs
What are the chances of survival
A) in the main tank
B) I saw some get sucked into the bioflow filter.. will they develop in there?
C) should I get another tank for spawning?

Thinking a few may have had some experience with this? Both my males are actively spawning and there are at least 2 willing female participants!

It's best if you have moss and they spawn over that, then you may get some survivors in a community.
I doubt anything will survive in the filter.
If you set up a breeding tank use "marbles" for substrate so the eggs can get under them, but the adults can't.

In your main aquarium with the adults plus your Dwarf Neon Rainbows, very unlikely I'm afraid. I'd be very surprised if they'd hatch stuck inside your filter too, although it can sometimes happen in a community aquarium where a surprise fry or two have been known to survive.

This is a great project for children to see and learn. :]

The best way, like with most Barbs is a separate aquarium with the same water parameters as your main aquarium although the softer the water the better, a sponge filter, large pea gravel substrate or marbles if you can find enough on the base and live food, bloodworms are best I found. A pair will scatter up to 200 - 300 eggs, once spawning has taken place remove the adults and the eggs should hatch within 48 hours. Once the newly hatched fry have used their yolk sacs and are free swimming, feed the tiny fry infusoria for around seven to ten days, after that use micro worms, Walter worms or you could try Liquid Fry foods, just be careful not spoil the water.
WARNING - DO NOT BREED, FEED OR PET THE PUDDLE! :dodgy2:

Thanks both,

I'm thinking of setting up a small tank (or 2) for shrimp with a sponge filter and spare heater as I already have some spare equipment - could that double up as a spawn tank or not a good idea with shrimp Vs adult barbs and eggs vs shrimp once the adults are removed?
Thinking I could keep any guppy fry in there until big enough too

The guppy fry would be ok, not sure about adult barbs, although cherries aren't that big........
....the shrimp may well eat any eggs though, not just keep them clean as they might with bigger eggs.

Ok I've had thoughts. Wife says no more tanks at least until the others are stocked so I guess without surprising her with a free one I find on marketplace or gumtree etc, I will wait on this project
I have been looking at other glass/acrylic type boxes, wonder also if I can build my own small tank with the leftover aquarium silicone I have from resealing the 40l

In other news my wife thinks she saw a round ball of eggs coming out of one of the praecox. Is this likely or more likely dodgy poop?

They're egg-scatterers, so it would be rare to see a "round ball of eggs" I would have thought.

Probably bubbly poop then? I had seen this before - anything to worry about?
