Wow, the pond as certainly matured well. Really like the look of the creeping plants coming along the paved area towards the pond. ::thumbu::

Sorry for not being around for a while, life remains busy.
Anyway, the pond has matured very nicely and I have attracted a new regular visitor. This Grey Wagtail sometimes comes several times a day to feed on insects, it's been a regular for the last few weeks:

The partly-submerged branch was deliberately put there as a perch for birds, and they love it:

Nice pics Paul :)
Pretty sure it was a grey wagtail I seen by the river when we were walking around The Peak last week :)
To the tune of “the saints go marching in”:
Oh fluffy sheep! Oh fluffy sheep! Oh fluffy sheep are wonderful, they’re white Welsh and fluffy! Oh fluffy sheep are wonderful!

I work in the same industry and if you are looking for GCN, your pond would have to be included in a re-location licence.

You can get Italian GCN but it is illegal to release them into the wild which could happen.

Be happy if you get frogs, toads, smooth and palmate newt. These are all under additional pressure because if they don't have GCN as pond mates they don't count.

Makes me mad, the species shouldn't be protected, the waterbody should.

If you have 1 GCN in a pond it is protected, if you have 200 smooth in a pond it is not.

Thanks! Sorry for not providing many updates recently. The Grey Wagtail is still a regular visitor, sometimes several times a day. Very rewarding to see it enjoying the pond. Hopefully next season I will attract some more wildlife including some amphibians.
