Hey,
I’m starting up a small 150 litre pond in my garden with a preformed pond liner- is this too small for any goldfish? And if so is there anything else that could maybe go in there.
Grateful for any help because I’ve never had a pond before, only tanks.

Google says 20 gallons per inch of fish. You're 40 gallon pond could therefore temporarily house x1 2" goldfish.

150L is pretty small. Do you have a pump and filter? Plants? Goldfish can grow to 12" in size. Maybe look for something smaller or keep it as a nature pond. :)

I’m not an expert but for fish I know the depth is very important for winter, unless I suppose you could winter them indoors. When I was getting mine made we made sure there was a bit that was at least 2 and a half feet deep for the cold weather.

Okay so it’s 40cm deep, do you know of any smaller fish that would be suitable? Or is it too small for anything.

...or just use it as a summer residence for, e.g. platties or guppies but then make sure you get them all indoors when it gets cold.

Someone told me you could do that with my giant Danios- can small Danios go out too?

I don't see why not, in principle. As long as the water conditions and temp are ok. Just have to have a think about how you would catch them again in the pond when it gets too cold outside. There is one risk, though, of wild bugs coming into the pond (leeches, hydra, damselfly/dragonfly nymph..) which you don't want to bring into an established tank. So perhaps any pond fish would need to overwinter in a separate tank.

Both sticklebacks and frogspawn sound like a great idea, not sure I’d know where to start though. I’ll do some research on keeping both- thanks!
