I havean Oase biomaster so my mechanical filtration is in the prefilter and 1st tray, so the matrix is biological only, guess the only thing that could improve is flow as there are smaller pieces that sit in the holes in the trays.

Eheim substrat pro is hard to beat.

I agree.
In my opinion it is the best biological media on the market. It has a huge surface area for beneficial bacteria colonisation.

If you don't have anomia issues then I'd look at other things first, how long since the hoses have been cleaned? Are you just trying to improve water circulation?
If the filter is doing is job then you probably don't need to change any media, any new media needs to grow the bacteria again so it is probably not the best thing to do. More filtration is rarely a bad thing but I doubt just changing the media will give you that.
