Hi everyone!
Hope you’re all ok.
Been a while since my last posts of various cory deaths. I’m looking to re-stock in a couple weeks and looking for any community fish recommendations you may have.
I currently have my 7 green neons and 8 rasboras. So need to be compatible.
I was looking at dwarf rainbows? But not sure on temperament and if they’d be ok with the current small fish. Everything I’ve read suggests so but I had killifish not so long ago and the male literally tore my tank up! He was not peaceful at all. I handed him back to the LFS with his mate.
I’m not sure I want corys anymore. My tanks 125L so plenty room for now. Just looking for couple breeds. Nothing too complex care wise.
Thanks in advance
Val

it’s kh 6-7 at the moment. GH was 6 I think if I remember rightly. Only checked it once or twice.
Maintained the KH nicely. I’m not using bicarbonate anymore but an NT labs buffer. No more deaths since the honey end of March. Although one tetra has a near death experience behind the filter. He was lucky I spotted him. He’s now missing half his tail but doing ok

Rainbows are hard water fish. Yours is fairly soft. Most sout american species should be fine.
What about a centre peice fish? Dwarf cichlid.

Piranhas!
My choice; Cherry Barb - Puntius titteya, small, hardy and very adaptable.

Now the piranhas would certainly attract the other half to the hobby!Martinspuddle wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 17:31 pm Piranhas!

I always thought cichlids were a little temperamental? I really miss my honey gourami but not sure can have both those and cichlids

Great fish, I found can be little shy, great for livebearer control but one word of warning, good jumpers, so keep your lid on!

Unfortunately because of their shyness, I never manage to get a decent image of them. In case your wondering, the fishes on the right of the image are Pretty Tetra - Hemigrammus pulcher

Aaah brilliant! I might get a lovely group of them. They do look stunning colours. Are they aggressive in any way? Would they be ok say with the honeys?
Thank you for the warning! I once had that naughty male killifish jump out the tank gave me a scare as I only just spotted him on the floor. Another lucky fish. Subsequently returned for bullying!
I have green neons and they have tended to be shy at times. They can hide a bit! It was when he got stuck behind the filter. They all hid for a couple weeks. They’re venturing out more now.

The bigger emperors are quite boisterous, so the smaller cousins will likely be similar (not having kept them).
The tank would have been a bit small for dwarf rainbows anyway, but you could look at threadfins which do like softer water.
They are quite difficult to feed though and need very small food like cyclops.
