What's happening in your garden this spring?

I do love flowers and colour and have since I was a teenager. I used to (when younger) grow plants from seed on the windowsill, prick them out in to cells and then to larger pots in to a home-made cold-frame.
I then sold most of them to family and neighbours (only 50p or £1 for six plants) for extra pocket money and to cover my costs. They were happy and I had extra pocket money in my pocket, so I was also happy. I even collected seeds from the plants to use the following year.

I only have a fairly small flower border approx 9 x 1.5 meters and love to see it full of colour.
My main plants are Penstemon, I have several which most have come from specialist breeders/growers.
I like to encourage bees and butterflies especially as their numbers have dwindled in recent years and have tried many different plants over the years.
I have a few lavender plants which bees and butterflies love. The rest of the flower border will be full of Antirrhinums (snap dragons) of different colours, I can't have a flower border without Antirrhinums. My nieces were amazed by my talking flowers, "Uncle Stephen can we see your talking flowers please?" they used to say (years ago when they were little).
This year I am trying a new plant (new to my garden) and that is Digitalis, I have two. They will be positioned at the rear of the flower border roughly in-line with the Penstemons. I plan on putting them in sometime today.

As you may know, I have a favourite LFS (65 miles away) for my fish; I also have a favourite garden centre for my plants (25 miles away), my favourite for quality plants.
I will be collecting my Antirrhinums from my favourite garden centre probably over the next two weeks (likely next week).
Meanwhile there is some minimal weeding to do which hopefully will also be done today if the rain stays off.

Hopefully my flower border will be full of colour this summer (unlike last summer when plants were difficult to source due to the lockdown).
At night the border is also full of colour as Gill loves her solar lights (too many), on the fencing and at the front of the border; even some around a bush at the bottom of the garden. Although I admit it does look nice at night.

What's happening in your garden?

All the best

Apparently it's been the coldest April for 60 years. :O

As many of you know we're just in the process of moving in to our new old house. We have just tidied up and waiting to see what appears really and things are starting to happen.

I always wanted Wisteria ever since I saw a cottage covered in the village of Gam, Cornwall and it's just coming into bloom.

Haven't been able to much else, it's been just too cold to plant anything else.

I've always admired the Wisteria when on my travels, lovely. I just need a cottage. ;)

I have two hanging baskets that need planting up.
I have the compost and the plants (petunias). Two contrasting colour schemes, one red & white and the other dark blue and blue/white plus some ivy.
I couldn't do the hanging baskets last year but will this years. Maybe today or maybe in the week.

Not a lot as we are currently renting, we do have a lovely herb border with lemon balm, mint, chives etc, and recently had the retaining wall replaced so have two small matching planters with blue star grass, red stars and Japanese Skimmia.

Lots here! I've been doing a lot of work around the house, which is now virtually finished so I've had time to sort the Garden. This is the worst bits before photo:
Image
I put in a new fence as the old one was rotten, built a new gate, relayed the path and spent about a week digging the roots up!

I've just finished building a large planter for my fruit/veg patch and an enclosure for my tortoise (that's a dog behind the enclosure, not the tortoise 🧐

Photos were taken about a month ago, I now have a healthy start with Broccoli, broad Beans, Onions and Carrots.

My last job is just to build either some decking, or a new patio as what we have currently is the rubbish to house developers lay on some sand, very poorly laid and didn't last two minutes without being overtaken by weeds and wonky tiles after some rain.

Also I need to work out a way to get rid of the dandelions from the lawn without harming my grass eating Border Terrier. I have more dandelions that grass at the moment.

I did have a massive Wisteria plant where the sleeper planter is now, but it was way too big for the size of garden so it's gone. I have created a little Bee 🐝 garden as well out of an old wooden bed frame.

We done the little bit of weeding and planted the new Digitalis.
We then started to plant up one of the hanging baskets and it started to rain, we carried on until the hanging basket was finished, we'll do the other one next time.
