Having been fish keeping for 40 years or so I’ve always kept away from barbs because of their nippy reputation for a community tank.Got it wrong ;I suppose you never stop learning.Got some five banded barbs great colours and peaceful.Just added 8 Odessa barbs. Not coloured up yet but nice fish. However after watching them they are very lively which I expected.I’ve just noticed sometimes they seem to chase some fish. These are not long finned.Checked on fish and it’s not nipping but seems a playful thing.
.As I’ve no experience with Odessa barbs is this normal behaviour for this lively barb.?
Thks in advance.

Hi Moby, glad you like the Odessa's, at least half my current stock are barbs although I don't keep Odessa's, I have noticed often a group of fish will need a week to settle when introduced to the main tank, they might just need more time, also if they don't settle it could be temperature, some people keep these in temperate tanks as they prefer things on the cooler side, if your tanks a bit warm it could be making them a bit tetchy ;)

I always find that with barbs, the more, the merrier. 10+ seem to settle quicker and keep the "playfulness" within the group, but the temp could have something to do with it, especially if it's above 24C.
