Hi everyone, been a while! Hope you are all good. Mid August I lost my male apistogramma Baeschi and left with a single female, who shares a tank with some otocinclus. Today, I've noticed a young Apisto! I've searched the tank to see if there was a young male from a spawn I'd missed living amongst the wood, but no.
So what the hell!
If anybody has heard of this, or can point me towards some reading I'd massively appreciate!
By the way, please don't judge on the dirt in the bottom! I broke my wrist two weeks ago and had it pinned, so i was a little behind on my water changes.
Something unbelievable...

It looks about 2-3 months old. Born before you lost the male.

Thanks. It wasn't a bad break, just an awkward bone.
I had expected them to be bigger than that at 3 months. Although I guess its growth is slightly slower as I haven't targeted it with a fry specific diet. Still, far more explainable than a female doing a males job as well!black ghost wrote: ↑Thu Oct 26, 2023 23:12 pm It looks about 2-3 months old. Born before you lost the male.

How big is it? About 0.5” max at 2 months, Google says, so with a slower growth rate, maybe 3 to 4?

Did they spawn as you lost the male? Is that why you lost him, because she beat him up?
If at first you don't succeed....
...get someone else to do it!
Enjoy your fish, shrimps and snails!

I believed at the time she may have battered him a bit. It's been suggested elsewhere that it's about right for growth if it hasn't had extra water changes and feeds. Abnormality over I think!

Thanks. Fortunately the wrist is recovering well. I can loose the splint on Monday.Staffylover wrote: ↑Fri Oct 27, 2023 17:56 pm Hope your wrist soon improves, but how lovely to have a fry to look out for
There is actually a couple of these young ones that have survived. They're certainly lucky little guys/girls.
