Yeah that makes sense. Is it best to use vinyl? Just realised I won’t have much space to fit that neatly.

Fish wrote: Thu Mar 28, 2024 11:39 am Yeah that’s what I was reading about. I’ve only put plywood under it and all 4 corners are now touching it, all felt under the plywood removed. Can only slip the paper leaflet in the middle on the right hand side. Tbh I’m not entirely sure the frame is completely level as my spirit level tells me my cabinet is. I removed the water this morning so I could get the felt out and put the same water back in so hoping that’s okay as I added ammonia yesterday and it read 0.2ppm last night so I’ll check it again later.

I just need to decide if I have a black background or plant type pic.

Is this a 2.0? Struggling to read the colours, I really need to do it earlier in the day when there is more light! Nitrites are 0.

I'd call them both 2.
I don't keep fish, I keep water. Water keeps fish.

Okay, thanks. I didn’t take a pic of the first day I tested after adding ammonia but I’m sure that was a 2. So that’s 3 days of 2ppm, is that about right?

Are you testing for nitrite as well? 3-4 days is normal for things to begin to work.
I think there's a very slightly different shade between the two, so you may have about 0.25 nitrite as well?
If at first you don't succeed....
...get someone else to do it! :D

Enjoy your fish, shrimps and snails!

I did yesterday, and it was 0 so maybe things aren’t working just yet? I’ll test it again in a while. But my plants are looking healthy and surprised one of them is clearly growing already!

Yesterday nitrites -

The is is today, presume it’s not really doing its thing atm. I’ve listed everything so far below, I added ammonia 2 days in a row at the start as I completely misread the advice when I started this thread (to get it up to 4ppm and add double the ammonia). I guess I’ve just got to wait!

DAY 1 - 27th
(2.6ml ammonia added)
DAY 2
Ammonia 2.0ppm
(2.6ml ammonia added)
DAY 3
Ammonia 2.0ppm
(None added)
DAY 4
Ammonia 2.0ppm
Nitrites 0ppm
(None added)
Day 5
Ammonia 2.0ppm
Nitrates 0
