Hi, so, I’m setting up my tank; substrate in, water in, plants in, and going through the nitrogen cycling process. Just slightly worried that my pump/filter is not going to cut it. 70L tank, 80x40x30cm
Any recommendations for alternatives, if you guys reckon it doesn’t cut it?

depends on stocking plans and how much sponge is actually in it. Whats the make/model of the filter?

Hi, so it’s a Ciano CF80 Filter. Is the angle that the water is getting spouted out correct?
So, not a pump? Do I need a separate one?
Soft water area so will be stocking tetras etc, fish that thrive in such waters.

I think a FX2 is a little bit overkill!! That'll run a 350L tank with ease!

A Eheim classic 150 would be more than enough for it if you did want to go external, or a Eheim pickup 160 for internal filters.

The angle is fine but I'd have it flowing across the side not front to back.

The Ciano CF80 Filter is only suitable for aquariums of 40-80L (probably closer to 40L than 80L).
For a 70L aquarium I would be looking at a filter that pumps 350-450L/h.
Fluval internal U2 filter should be fine (U3 is better).
Fluval 107 external filter is a great alternative.

You could either keep the filter and get a similar filter for the other corner or get a new filter altogether. Both approaches have pros and cons, but yeah, you need more turnover and capacity.

By the way, i wouldn't bother using the ciano cartridges for that filter. Get some sponge and cut it to size and just use sponge in place of the cartridges. I think you'll already have a piece of coarse sponge in the filter, so get some medium/fine sponge for the top section of the filter.

Thanks for the replies guys, I’ve purchased a Fluval internal U2 filter and will get it installed tomorrow.

You can’t go wrong with that one! If you have room to squeeze your old sponge in then do it as that will help with beneficial bacteria 🙂
