New to fishkeeping so bear with me.
I think two of my tetra are spawning. Just done a water change & immediately after noticed a pair in and around a java fern, the lead one rapidly fluttering tail & other one following closely whilst chasing other Phantoms away, but ignoring the Serpae. I havn't seen anything like this since getting them (only 3 days)
Yellow Phantom Tetra spawning?

Considering your aquarium hasn't completed it's nitrogen cycle it is somewhat surprising.
Even if they do hatch (24 - 48 hours for most Tetra species) it's very unlikely the fry will survive.

I'm not expecting them to survive, just taking it as a positive that they are comfortable in the aquarium. Seems the gold flashes are becoming more vivid as wellMartinspuddle wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2024 19:34 pm Considering your aquarium hasn't completed it's nitrogen cycle it is somewhat surprising.

I wasn't sure the first time whether I was seeing trapped bubbles on vegetation or eggs, but I saw these being dropped.

Have you got any corydoradine in the tank?
There's something on the wood that looks like a cory egg....it may just be the wood seeping if course....?

Not yet no, but I have a group of 5 Three Stripe Corys reserved at LFS. I want the tank to mature before adding more fish after getting into a fish-in cycle. I won't say by mistake, but under a bit of a misunderstanding of effectiveness of API Quick Start.
Waiting to start seeing nitrates on the daily test before adding any more fish. Keep getting a reading that seems between 0 & 5 ppm as below

It'll be the wood then.
The nitrates of my tapwater are under 5ppm, test yours to see if there's a slightly higher level in the tank.
My tanks are very low on nitrates (usually under 5, always under 10).

Good point, checked against tap water as a control and getting the same result. Tank test has been paler for a few days, but maybe the plants are using it. Did a 1/3rd water change yesterday so probably residual nitrate from that
