Could anyone identify which species of geophagus this is?
Bought from a very reputable fish shop who themselves weren’t sure so sold them to me very cheap.
After a bit of googling I’m thinking either altifrons or one of the surinamensis but not sure.
Any help would be grand!

Think it will difficult to fully tell at present. Think you need to wait until they're more mature.

Does it look similar to my avatar (Geophagus megasema)?
Did they come from Wharf Aquatics as I left the last 2 (after buying 4), I was almost tempted to buy the 6.
Mine are not as colourful as yours or have a well developed lateral spot, so I don't think they are Geophagus megasema.
Maybe Geophagus winemilleri ??

This is why I asked how big they were, they could be any of the above.
Wait until they've grown a bit and coloured-up they'll be easier to ID then.

Hi Stephen, yes they were from wharf, they had them on sale as just Geophagus sp. I nipped in yesterday again and they have a new batch of surinamensis and they do look like them.Stephen wrote: Tue Nov 12, 2024 23:29 pmDoes it look similar to my avatar (Geophagus megasema)?

I’ll give them a few months and take some more photos.
