Hi all
A couple of weeks ago, we got ourselves some Amano shrimp for the Mrs' 30l nano.
Last week I started seeing empty shrimp shells lying about on the substrate and the shrimps were hiding in the plants.
Since we still have the same number of (now very shy) shrimps, I am assuming that they all decided to moult simultaneously and are now waiting for their shells to harden.
Can anybody tell me roughly how long that takes?

Usually 48 - 72 hours depending age of Shrimp and water parameters. Molting can be a dangerous time for a Shrimp and many can die from exhaustion during the process.
Leave the moulted skin in situ as the Shrimp will eat this. The old shell is full of minerals.

thanks @Martinspuddle that is something i did not know! i always took mine out - and the shells turn pink when dried which i find quite amusing and i will say quite impressive when you see the detail of it. how do they even get out of that thing in the first place
my amanos moulted not long after i got mine too last year. and they have subsequently gone through several, i am going to say every 5 weeks initially. Fortunately i have not lost any during a moult and the good hiding places help them to hunker down to harden up.
