That is really scary, Microsoft should be ashamed of their software "quality".
I did some research (OK, I Googled it) and found this article, specifically about recovering formatted disks:
https://www.handyrecovery.com/recover-f ... ard-drive/
They do not recommend Recuva or EaseUs, but do recommend DiskDrill.
I'm not sure if it will work after you already ran EaseUs though.
Hacked, lost everything

Ahh yes diskdrill was a good bit of kit!!
Most software will ‘read’ the sectors and not ‘write’ so they shouldn’t of been over written by the software, it’s wether or not Microsoft installer writes 00s to erase data before installing that could be a problem.
You can do this built into windows btw -
You really need to boot from a different drive so that the one containing the data you wish to recover is effectively a slave.
* Press Windows & r and type cmd in the search box.
* In the command line, type chkdsk G/f (change G to the letter of the drive you want the files from)
*Press Y until the command line starts again.
Again, enter the drive letter, and hit Enter. The command line will go back to start.
*Enter the following command:
[G : \ >attrib –h –r –s /s /d *.*] (Replace G with your disk letter)
It should recover all the files on the drive BUT you might see them with a .chk extension.
Rename them to what they should be and they hopefully will work.

Everything has gone, all photos, all music, all files including my fish datasheets, all software, everything.
Do I start again ?
Do I have the time ?
Do I have the enthusiasm ?
...and when you do, multitable back ups please.
If only you knew truth about them. Microsoft software products, equals profit ...it's all they care about.YnotFish wrote: Sun Dec 01, 2024 9:08 am That is really scary, Microsoft should be ashamed of their software "quality".
An estimated 240 million Windows 10 compatible PC's could become e-waste or end up in landfill because of Windows 11 system requirements.

I'm afraid that's a myth. Microsoft never actually said that.YnotFish wrote: Sun Dec 01, 2024 12:56 pmI remember when Win10 first came out. Funny enough, this was recently explained by associate professor Christopher Barnatt in his video '7 Computing Urban Myths'

On a more positive note:-
I just found copies of my fish datasheets on my other external hard drive (normally kept elsewhere).
There are also some other files which, although out-of-date, can be used and updated.
I think I'll start again with my music files, I still have the original CDs which can be ripped, it's just adding the tags that's time consuming, especially the year of release.

Have a look at open source software, many programs do this automatically. There's Fre:ac, MakeMKV, VLC Player and many others for Windows. I use VLC Player to copy my CD's to the PC.Stephen wrote: Sun Dec 01, 2024 14:41 pm On a more positive note:-

I use a different software for my mp3 tags which works well.fr499y wrote: Sun Dec 01, 2024 15:25 pm Also get mp3tag as it will find the albums from an online database and tag them for you with track numbers and everything - even ads album art for you
I take the singles off the CDs and add the year that the single was in the charts/released (not when the CD was released).
Example: Now That's What I Call 90s (CD) has music from 1990 to 1999 and I add the actual year to each track, not the CD release year.
