Hi all,

Excited to be a part of the forum!

I am new to the whole aquarium life. I have had a small 25 litre tank for around 3 months. I keep some cherry shrimp and some very small Rasboras (Schwarzfleckbärbling in German, not sure what the direct translation is)

This morning while doing a water change, I noticed a really strange looking creature. Looks like kind of like a silverfish insect but obviously aquatic.

Has any one ever seen this before and know what it is? And where on earth could it have come from?

Many thanks!

It's a flying insect Larva Hard to be more specific without a better idea of size. Some Mayfly larvae have that forked tail.

Edit: Digging through my book of pond insects the image of Damselfly and Stonefly Larva looks quite similar

Remove it.
It is definitely a larvae of some sort (dragonfly, damselfly, etc..)

Welcome to the forum

Your rasbora are the Least rasbora (Boraras urophthalmoides) which originate from Thailand and Malaysia.
It is only a small rasbora which grows to around 16mm when adult.

All the best

Interesting animal. If it's a dragonfly I hope you will find a natural body of water for it.

Welcome to the forum. :)
Pop it in a pond or somewhere where it won't eat fish and shrimp. ;)

Thanks for all the advice, guys. Much appreciated! Luckily there is a public pond just a few minutes walk from me. I took him down there :)

It is a damselfly larvae I reckon, mayflies have a different body shape.

Dragonfly larvae don't have the tail appendages.
Everything I say and do are the result of multiple personalities. If it is offensive then it wasn't me!!
