I managed to take a couple of better photos (better???? you sure?????). of the little fellow. Following the kind advice from @Stephen and @Black Ghost I know a little more about him/her now. I was very fortunate that this afternoon a neighbour in the apartment block went to the same Pet Store for stuff for his animal, and he kindly collected 4 of the Black Ruby Barbs. Now he (the fish NOT the neighbour) has some pals to play within the Quarantine Tank; he now has a little shoal of 5. They are so small I cannot tell whether they are boys or girls. So more reading required. Thanks again guys.

The body colouring looked male, but the black of the fins made me think female.
