And now for the hooligans in the kitchen...

Back in August I decided purchase five young Black Ruby Barbs to add to the five adults Barbs I already have. Quarantined before moving in, these little chaps where moved in eight weeks ago which makes for very active aquarium. I know one or two of you are now working out the stocking and yes it is over.

Since you all last saw the kitchen aquarium I have been slowly adding RO water to the water changes, so now a 50% waterchange is 25% tap and 25% RO. By adding Catappa leaves and locally collected alder cones every couple of weeks, this has made the water to near acidic conditions bringing the pH to 6.8, with a dKH of 8 making for some very happy Barbs.
I've let aquarium go wild, allowing algae to grow except for front and side panes. The wood is covered in a mixture of Black Beard algae, Cyanobacteria and some Hair algae which the Barbs, when their not distracted by the comings and goings in the kitchen, constantly graze on. With the mixture of Java moss and Dwarf Lettuce (Pistia Stratiotes) the Nitrate levels have been kept a healthy 5 - 10ppm and this is despite the amount of slit suspended in the water column from their faeces and decaying Catappa leaves.

Diet, apart from a constant supply of their own eggs, (the adults seem to spawn weekly) these guys are only fed on frozen foods every other day, mainly Bloodworm and Brine Shrimp with Garlic.
Old puddle, new house...

I think the door will definitely last longer than Paul’s plants
To the tune of “the saints go marching in”:
Oh fluffy sheep! Oh fluffy sheep! Oh fluffy sheep are wonderful, they’re white Welsh and fluffy! Oh fluffy sheep are wonderful!

Earlier I had a wet car at high tide ...salt spray coming over the wall!
We've had the usual flood warnings from the Environment agency and the seawall gates are closed, fingers crossed.
...by tomorrow, I could well have a temperate marine aquarium setup in the front room, for free.

Very unlikely we will get any flooding, only a amber for low lying areas.PaulVerrall wrote: ↑Fri Nov 26, 2021 19:17 pmHaha in kent??? Someone will jack that open!Gingerlove05 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 26, 2021 18:42 pm

As for the flood gates, they always make me laugh ...there's a six inch gap between the bottom of the gate and the deck so water will still get through.
