The sole surviving CRS seems to be a bit more active today, 6 days since the last death.
I had to shut off the filter for a few minutes this evening, while it was off I noticed 2 or 3 whiteish dots/blobs, not even the size of a pin head, moving about very quickly. They disappeared into the substrate by the glass and I could see them moving about for a bit before they disappeared. Anybody got a clue what they are? I’m quite sure they’re not, but could they be shrimp babies?
2 Sterbai babies still doing well. Got some micro worms growing to fatten them up a bit.
I’ve got a pair of Angels that lay around every 14 days then eat the eggs. I rescued a couple of dozen the other day and dropped them in the shrimp tank, most have gone white but still a few looking viable. Should hopefully see them hatching tomorrow or Saturday if they are viable.

Could be small freshwater amphipods or also known fish food.walker26 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 22:31 pm I had to shut off the filter for a few minutes this evening, while it was off I noticed 2 or 3 whiteish dots/blobs, not even the size of a pin head, moving about very quickly. Thanks. I’ll have to switch the filter off for a bit again tomorrow and see if I can get a better look or maybe a photo.

Definitely not snail related.
These thing fly about the tank (blink and they’re gone) and not just on the glass but also in the water column.

Just went and turned the light on and pump off and after about 30 seconds I noticed loads of the little things.
I got a video but it was hard to focus on them as they are so small. Some of the larger ones seem to have tails that look very similar to shrimp tails, although I still think that is unlikely. What do you guys think?

Done a bit more research and it looks like they are Copepods of some sort.
Bit of free food for the baby Sterbai.

Went to LFS this afternoon to have a chat about the CRS dying. He couldn’t see anything wrong with my parameters but did say that the guy that they get the CRS from, breeds them in 7.2pH water as he couldn’t get them breeding lower than that. The manager kindly gave me 10 to replace the 7 I had lost, now acclimating them and there is also a couple of some different kind of shrimp that I can’t see very well at the moment.

So 24 hours after adding the new shrimp and all is well. The new additions seem far happier than I remember the original 8, they are far more active and all over the tank looking for food. One has already had a shed, but I think the same happened with the first batch.
I seem to have got some really nice high grades again as well. I might have to ask what the other two stow away shrimp are, if I can get any sort of photo as they are far more timid than the CRS. They are quite light coloured, with maybe a greenish tint.
