Small aquarium ideas?

Hi again,

When I first got into fish keeping I started with a very small 25l tank. I quickly realised this was completely inadequate for the two goldfish I had so soon upgraded and the 25l has been tucked away in my garage ever since.

I have been thinking about getting this cycled again so I can start looking at some new fish but I have no idea what would be best in such a small tank and something relatively easy to manage for a novice?

I have a freshwater tank at the moment so would be keen to look at tropical however not sure if I am experienced enough for this challenge? Other thoughts were another freshwater tank for white cloud minnows/guppys/tetras/danios or even a single betta?

Any recommendations would be appreciated. I would like to use this to try and get my Son interested in the hobby.

Thanks in advance 👍

It’s not big enough for fish, although many would say it’s big enough for a Betta. It’s big enough for shrimp.

Maybe a trio of scarlet badis? 2 females, 1 male, with some shrimp. ;)

I have a tank the same size that I use for shrimp. I have cherry shrimp that do very well in my water. I wouldn’t keep fish in it permanently, although I have used it as a hospital tank in the past.

Thanks, I thought as much. Shocking to think I was sold this tank originally to house a blackmoor and fantail. Especially when you consider the size they are now.

Time to read up on shrimp... I'm sure the kids will love this too 😊

Small bag of river sand, small piece of bogwood, plants, I'd suggest Guppy grass or Java moss, a 25 watt nano heater, air pump with sponge filter and a nano 6 watt LED light ...once the tank has cycled just add a few Cherry shrimp (Neocaridina davidi 'Red') and enjoy. :]

My old 18 litre Superfish shrimp tank which housed wild Neocaridina shrimp. Very easy to keep, low bio load and fun for the kids to watch.

It is possible to keep shrimp in a small heavily planted small aquarium without a filter but I wouldn't advise a beginner to try this.
