Currently working on a South American themed tank and was wondering which wood would be best?
I have surfed the net and cannot get a definitive South American wood.
I have 2 great pieces of mopani wood at the minute but I believe it originates from Africa.
Any suggestions out there?

Manzanita wood is American, not sure if it is found South though. Good side is no tannins from it, bad side it's quite hard to get and very expensive.

Anything really as long as it replicates or derives from South America

Go with redmoore root and if pennies allow, manzanita. They are more twig looking so should suit nicely. Maybe a couple of smaller bits of bog wood or mopani for the ‘river bed’ chunks.

If you want it to look natural, some thin branches and twigs, and a few leaves, and a bit of soft bogwood for your plec...
