Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but I'm looking to keep a snakehead ( dwarf species) but I'm not sure if I need a license? I'm in Scotland if that makes a difference.
Thanks in advance.

No. Only Channa argus needs a licence in the UK. :)

As @black ghost says, only the one species needs a license.

Make sure you have a tight fitting lid if you do keep them!!

Might be worth looking on the band apps if you can find any snakehead/channa pages. Band is where you can usually find breeders now Facebook doesn't allow it.

Not many people breed them because the demand is so small. You could join the AAGB for a tenner. They’ll know if anyone does.

Which species are you wanting?

Bad news I’m afraid. I’ve just discovered that all Channa species need a licence in Scotland. Sorry to have misinformed you.

The Prohibition of Keeping or Release of Live Fish (Specified Species) (Scotland) Order 2003

Politics, eh? I can keep them in Carlisle, but 10 miles away in Gretna they’re illegal. Even the tropical ones, that are allowed in England because they wouldn’t survive an English winter, are banned in Scotland which is even colder. Go figure.
